How do you play Common Ground?

12 players · 4 groups of 3 · 15s a turn

The four shared traits are written above the board: same club, same nationality, same position. Every group holds THREE names and the empty slots on each row count them out. You work out which trio fits which trait, then pick and confirm. A wrong set with at least two tiles from the same group only costs your turn; a fully scattered set costs a point, and so does PASSING.

Step by step

  1. Find the trios that match the traits above.
  2. Pick the 3 players from the same group.
  3. Make your pick and SUBMIT!

How do you win Common Ground?

A group is worth AS MANY POINTS AS IT HAS NAMES - three each. Passing costs a point, and so does a wrong set where all three come from different groups; spot two that match and the miss is free. Higher total wins.

Matchmaking decides which game you play; both players get the same one.

Where the questions come from

Every question and clue is generated from real records in the Derby Duel database. Real match results, squads and season statistics collected from the leagues and cups of 6 countries - no value is estimated, and nothing that is not in the source turns up in the game.

Tips for Common Ground

  • Start with the narrowest trait. A broad trait such as a position fits many names on the board; a specific club or nationality fits fewer and gives a group away fast.
  • The trap is the name that fits two traits at once. Before you confirm a trio, check which other group that player could belong to.
  • If at least two names in a wrong set share a group, there is no penalty - you only lose the turn. If all three come from different groups, you lose a point. When unsure, submit a set where you trust at least two names.
